Sustainability Reporting in Switzerland

Results and trends

100+ companies and organizations in Switzerland regularly report on their sustainability performances. In 2017, there were 99 reports uploaded to the GRI Database, which is a collection of all types of reports related to sustainability and social responsibility. Here are some data and trends:

GRI as a leading standard

Standards are not yet used very often, with them appearing in only 14% of the reports in 2017. The majority of the reports (52%) are based on the GRI G4 guidelines, which remain valid until 1 July 2018. When applying the GRI standards, four out of five Swiss organizations choose the “Core“ option. Only 14 reports in Switzerland published in 2017 apply the “Comprehensive” option.

New drive through the SDGs

In the past, organizations have replaced the term ‘sustainability’ with ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ (CSR). The launch of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has given a new drive to the term ‘sustainability’. Many reporters indeed tried to align their sustainability targets with one or more of the 17 SDGs. A recent survey showed that „62% of global firms surveyed are now reflecting SDGs at some level into their reporting.“[1] This trend can be observed in many countries and will be increasing in visibility in the coming years.
